How 3D LiDAR Scanning in Orange NSW Supports SolidWorks Design and Plant Upgrades

How 3D LiDAR Scanning in Orange NSW Supports SolidWorks Design and Plant Upgrades

When a processing plant has been modified over many years, the original drawings are often no longer enough for reliable engineering design. This is where 3D LiDAR scanning becomes a strong starting point for SolidWorks modelling, mechanical design and brownfield plant upgrades.

Hamilton By Design’s post on Orange NSW 3D LiDAR Scanning explains how engineering-grade site capture can support processing plants, shutdown planning, structural upgrades and accurate as-built documentation across the Central West NSW region.

For SolidWorks users and mechanical design teams, the value is simple: better site data leads to better models.

A LiDAR scan can capture conveyors, tanks, pipework, access platforms, chutes, structural steel and surrounding plant geometry. That point cloud data can then be used to support scan-to-CAD workflows, equipment layouts, clash checks and fabrication-ready design information.

This is especially useful for brownfield projects where the plant has changed over time. Instead of designing from old drawings or rough site measurements, engineers can use measured reality as the foundation for SolidWorks modelling and upgrade planning.

For shutdowns and capacity upgrade projects, this can reduce rework, improve installation planning and help confirm whether new equipment, larger chutes, modified conveyors or new pipework will fit within the existing plant.

Hamilton By Design combines 3D LiDAR scanning with practical mechanical engineering and SolidWorks-based design support for mining, industrial and processing plant projects.
